Published October 12, 2017 5:10am Updated October 12, 2017 7:34am Tropical Depression Odette has slightly intensified on Thursday morning and is estimated to be 730 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City in Cagayan as it continues to move westward towards the Philipine Sea, PAGASA reported.

Odette packs maximum winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 65 kph. It is expected to move westward at the speed of 26 kilometers per hour.

The tropical depression is estimated to be outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Sunday morning at 650 kilometers west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur.

The estimate rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy within Odette's 350 km diameter.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 is hoisted over Cagayan including Babuyan group of Islands, Isabela, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, and Ifugao.

The state weather bureau reports the possible inclusion of Ilocos Provinces in areas under TCWS No. 1 on Thursday morning.

Sea travel remains risky over the northern and eastern seaboards of Northern Luzon due to the northeasterly surface windflow.

The provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Abra, Kalinga, Apayao, and Mountain Province will experience rains with gusty winds. There is a possibility these areas will have scattered lightning, heavy rains which may cause flooding and/or landslides and slight damage to some houses made of very light materials due to strong winds.

Ilocos region, the rest of Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region will have cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rains with thunderstorms. The state weather bureau warns that these heavy rains may cause flooding and/or landslides.

Visayas, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will also be affected by Odette as these areas will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, localized thunderstorms are expected to affect Mindanao. The region will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies apart from isolated rainshowers mostly in the afternoon or evening.

The rest of Luzon will have moderate to rough coastal waters while Visayas and Mindanao will be moderate to occasionally rough.

The public and the disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next weather bulletin to be issued at 8 a.m. on Thursday. — BAP/KG, GMA News
